Happy International Women’s Day!

International Women’s Day began as a call for better working conditions, fair pay and voting rights. It continues as a call for equality in every space where decisions are made.

Today is a reminder of how much of our everyday world is shaped by women whose names are not always the loudest in the room. Women lead companies. Shape public policy. Drive scientific research. Teach, design, negotiate, build, create and govern. Women are present in every sector of the economy and every layer of society. Their contribution is measurable in labour force participation, entrepreneurship, education and civic leadership.

According to data from the UK Government and the Office for National Statistics, women make up nearly half of the workforce. More women than ever are starting businesses in the UK. Girls outperform boys at many stages of education. And yet, structural gaps remain, including differences in pay and representation at senior levels.

Community is where change takes root. It looks like transparent salaries. It looks like founders sharing knowledge rather than guarding it. It looks like calling out bias in meetings and backing someone when their idea is spoken over.

International Women’s Day is also a moment to look around and say thank you. To the mothers, sisters, daughters, partners and friends who held steady when everything else felt uncertain.

Progress rarely arrives in a single sweeping moment. It arrives in policies rewritten, in businesses founded, in conversations had, in confidence rebuilt. When girls grow up seeing leadership as something ordinary and accessible. When women are trusted with power and resources and allowed to use them fully.

On 8 March, we celebrate. The next day, week, month, the work continues. So, support women-owned businesses, credit women for their ideas, share their work. Review your hiring practices. Check your pay structures. Listen properly.

Equality is built in communities, and communities are built by people who choose to do better daily.
