A heart shaped iPhone or Samsung? Let’s see if they can make them!

If you’ve been scrolling through social media lately, you’ve likely seen it. A heart shaped smartphone, often labelled as the iPhone 17 or Samsung Galaxy S27, supposedly launching on 14 February.

As much as I’d love to see it, it’s not happening.

The viral videos are AI-generated or 3D concept rendered by fans for entertainment. Neither Apple nor Samsung has announced or even hinted at a heart shaped phone. And there is no credible evidence that either company is developing one.

Could Samsung or Apple build one? Technically, yes. Practically… kind of?

Modern smartphones are packed with precisely shaped components. The battery alone takes up a huge portion of the inside and manufacturers use large rectangular cells because they’re the most space-efficient. A heart-shaped phone would either need a custom-shaped battery, which would be more expensive and less efficient, or it would waste valuable internal space. On top of that, every internal component, from the display and circuit boards to wireless charging coils and protective cases, would need a bespoke redesign.

That doesn’t mean it’s impossible, as luxury brands have produced unusual phone shapes before. But for companies like Apple or Samsung, which manufacture tens of millions of devices each year, moving away from the standard rectangular design would increase manufacturing complexity, reduce compatibility with existing components and accessories and make repairs more difficult. And all this for a novelty design that wouldn’t be too practical to use anyway.

Still... I’d be lying if I said it wouldn’t make a cool Valentine’s Day edition. I wouldn’t walk. I’d run to get one as soon as it came out. But oh well, let’s dream on.
